Why a final-chance ladderProgressive recovery vs. a hard gate

A hard gate asks when we stop helping. A recovery ladder asks how much proof is appropriate before the user reaches Checkpoint.

Hard gate Tier 1 → Tier 2 → Checkpoint

Turns the next interruption into an abrupt loss of continuity, even when one final earned recovery would retain the user.

Final-chance ladder Tier 1 → Tier 2 → Final Chance → Checkpoint

Keeps one explicit final opportunity without inventing a stronger third activity tier or weakening Checkpoint.

It handles the edge case a gate cannot.

Most users remain in Tier 1 or Tier 2. Final Chance serves users with another short interruption who do not yet warrant a legacy-based Checkpoint Restore.

It keeps Checkpoint meaningful.

Checkpoint is a different recovery philosophy: legacy preservation after continuity is broken. It should not become the default third strike for minor interruptions.

It gives staff controlled discretion.

Support, VIP, and front-of-house teams can move a user one complete level without inventing custom days, gifts, coins, or promises.

It stays operationally simple.

There are only two recovery activity levels. Final Chance reuses Tier 2 requirements, while the final earned Freeze presents its own clearly named earn options.

Bottom line: the ladder protects retention without making recovery free. The gate is simpler only until real users reach its hard edge.
